Thank you for registering your team(s) for the 2021-2022 You Be The Chemist Challenge®!

The Challenge can be incorporated into the classroom as an asynchronous learning tool for teachers in their classroom. Student participation in the Challenge enhances student learning through participation in online study modules that coincide with CEF’s Challenge study materials, which can be found here. The study modules can be used to supplement classroom learning towards meeting the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

The Challenge is going to look a little different this year due to differences in COVID-19 protocols across schools. The Challenge will offer two tracks for the 2021-2022 school year: in-person and virtual.

  • In-Person Track: In-person participants will take the Qualifier exam, facilitated by their Team Coordinator. Advancing teams will have the opportunity to compete at an in-person Regional Challenge.
  • Virtual Track: Virtual participants will compete in the virtual academic competition and will not take the Qualifier exam.
  • Both Tracks: Students will participate in teams. Individual scores of each team member will be averaged to determine the team’s overall score. Teams will also submit a video that will be combined with their Regional Challenge score (in-person track) or virtual academic competition score (virtual track) to determine the state winners and national finalists. Students must compete in teams of four (4).

You will also notice we have shifted the term “School Coordinators” to “Team Coordinators.” As the Challenge program has grown and with the addition of a virtual track for participants, the term “Team Coordinator” is more reflective of this role. We will use the term “Team Coordinator” moving forward.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
